阿基里斯 (Achilles) 是海洋女神忒提斯 (Thetis) 與國王珀琉斯 (Peleus) 的兒子，他是所有英雄之中最耀眼的一位，也是戰無不勝的，以其勇氣，俊美和體力著稱。由於僅具有半神血統，當阿基里斯 (Achilles) 還是嬰兒時，忒提斯 (Thetis) 就把他倒提腳踝浸於斯提克斯 (River Styx) 冥河 ( 即所謂的天火 )，令他刀槍不入；讓他從小就在人馬凱隆 (Chiron) 那裡學習草藥醫學與格鬥的技藝。相傳阿基里斯 (Achilles) 是被凱隆 (Chiron) 以獅和豬的肝，及熊的骨髓餵養長大，並教導他各種武藝及作戰技巧和一些殘忍的競技打鬥「遊戲」，當然也教他彈琴下棋等才藝。
